The Russian Ambassador to the Maldives, Levan Dzhagaryan, said yesterday that he is aware of the “mastermind” behind the anonymous Hassan Khurusee account and that they believes the Maldivian government is aware of the account’s identity as well. He urged the account not to hinder dialogue between Russia and the United States of America (USA).
He also said he hopes the Maldivian government will not prevent Hassan Kurusee’s actions from hindering the relations the Maldives currently has with Russia.
On Tuesday, Hassan Kurusee, an anonymous account on X, posted, accusing President Dr Mohamed Muizzu of aiding in the transport of weapons and spare parts to Russia through Velana International Airport (VIA). The account had posted that they received information regarding shipments going into Russia through Aeroflot Airlines and called on the US Ambassador to the Maldives, Hugo Yue Ho Yon, to report this matter to the US State Department.
Regarding this statement, Dzhagaryan, who is the Ambassador of the Russian Federation to the Maldives and to Sri Lanka, said he believes the Maldivian government is aware of who is behind the Hassan Kurusee account and that it will not let his actions affect the current ties with the Maldives.
“We clearly know who is the mastermind of this anonymous publication and persistently request to refrain from undermining the current constructive dialogue between Russia and US. We also call not to damage the traditionally friendly #RussiaMaldives relationship,” Ambassador Dzhagaryan wrote in a statement posted on the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Sri Lanka and to the Maldives’ Meta account.
He said he believes President Mohamed Muizzu is actively working to improve the financial situation in the Maldives. He added that Russian tourists find the Maldives as one of the world’s most desirable holiday destinations, and are making a significant contribution to this effort.
“I’m persuaded, that the Republic leadership knows what a previously high-ranked politician (currently hiding in a European country) is behind this post and will not let his destructive actions affect our amicable ties with Male,” he said on Meta.
