Since February, China has been the leading source of tourists to the Maldives, with 113,702 arrivals recorded by the same date, constituting 11.6 percent of the total arrivals. The United Kingdom follows as the third largest market, with 91,032 arrivals reported so far.

Overall, the Maldives has welcomed 981,070 tourists in the year to date, marking a 10.2 percent increase compared to the same period last year when arrivals reached 890,363. This surge brings the Maldives close to reaching the one-million tourist mark for the year.

In terms of monthly arrivals, June saw 88,825 tourists visiting the Maldives, reflecting a 9.5 percent rise from June 2023.

India, previously the leading market for Maldivian tourism from 2020 to 2023, has dropped to sixth place with 61,052 arrivals. In response to this decline, the Maldives government has initiated efforts to strengthen bilateral relations and revive the Indian market.

These developments underscore the evolving dynamics of the Maldives’ tourism sector, with shifts in key visitor demographics prompting strategic responses from authorities.
