Tourist arrivals from Russia have surpassed 200,000 this year, reinforcing the country’s position as the Maldives’ second-largest source market, according to the latest data from the Ministry of Tourism and Environment.

Official statistics show that 203,737 Russian visitors had travelled to the Maldives as of 5 October, accounting for 12.2 percent of total international arrivals. Russia remains firmly behind China, which leads with 274,698 arrivals.

The updated figures underline strong competition among top-performing markets, with key European countries continuing to hold prominent positions in the rankings. Following China and Russia, the United Kingdom recorded 146,805 arrivals, Germany 117,406, and Italy 113,719.

Tourism in the Maldives continues to display robust growth, with overall arrivals reaching 1.6 million so far this year. This marks a 10 percent increase compared to the same period last year. On average, the island nation welcomes around 6,500 visitors daily.

At the current pace, the Maldives is on track to achieve the government’s annual target of 2.2 million arrivals by year-end, requiring a further 600,000 visitors in the remaining months of the year.
