The Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Dawah and Guidance of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has donated 15 tonnes of dates to the Ministry of Islamic Affairs of the Maldives.

A handover ceremony was held yesterday at the Islamic Centre in Malé to formally present the donation. The dates were handed over on behalf of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia by the Ambassador of Saudi Arabia to the Maldives, Yahya Hassan Al-Qahtani.

The Minister of Islamic Affairs, Dr Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed, accepted the donation on behalf of the ministry.

Speaking at the ceremony, Dr Shaheem expressed appreciation to King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, and the Government of Saudi Arabia for the longstanding ties between the two countries. He also commended the efforts of the Saudi Minister of Islamic Affairs, Abdullatif bin Abdulaziz Al-Sheikh, in strengthening religious cooperation and outreach initiatives.

The Minister further acknowledged the role of the Saudi Embassy in Malé in maintaining bilateral relations between the two countries.

In addition to the 15 tonnes presented at the ceremony, Saudi Arabia has decided to donate a total of 50 tonnes of dates to the Maldivian people this year. Authorities from both countries are coordinating arrangements for distribution.

Separately, the Embassy of Saudi Arabia in the Maldives hosted a ceremony in Malé on Saturday to mark Saudi Arabia’s Founding Day. The event, held at the embassy, was attended by Chief Justice Abdul Ghani Mohamed, Cabinet ministers, members of the diplomatic corps, and senior government officials.
