Saudi Arabia to Launch Initiative to Establish Arabic Language Centre in the Maldives
King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud has directed the relevant authorities to establish an Arabic language teaching centre in the Maldives, under an initiative led by Saudi Arabia to promote the Arabic language globally.
The King has appointed Imam Muhammad University, a prominent Saudi Arabian institution, to oversee the establishment and development of the centre.
In a statement, the university acknowledged the support provided by Saudi Education Minister Yusuf Bin Abdulla Al Bunyan in advancing the spread of the Arabic language to Muslim-majority countries where it is not widely spoken.
The statement also confirmed the appointment of Dr Saleh bin Sulaiman Alarajah as the Director of the Arabic Language Teaching Institute in the Maldives. Efforts to set up the centre are underway in collaboration with the Saudi Arabian Embassy in the Maldives.
The President of Imam Muhammad University highlighted that the establishment of the institution would strengthen cultural and academic ties between Saudi Arabia and the Maldives, while fostering greater international cooperation.
The Saudi Embassy in the Maldives shared an update on social media platform X, noting that Ambassador Matrek AlDosari had met with the Director of the Institute of Islamic and Arabic Sciences in the Maldives to finalise arrangements for the centre’s establishment.
