The Ministry of Education has announced adjustments to school timings during the month of Ramadan, with classes set to commence between 8:30 am and 9:00 am.
In a circular distributed to schools across the Maldives, the Ministry outlined the scheduling adjustments, stipulating that single-session schools will commence classes within the specified time frame. Furthermore, classes are to conclude by 3:00 pm daily.
Both single and double-session schools are required to commence classes at 8:30 am.
The circular also provides guidelines for the duration of classes, which vary according to the grade level. For LKG and UKG students, classes will run for 1 hour and 30 minutes, while grades 1 to 6 will have 2 hours and 30 minutes of class time. Students in grades 7 to 12 will engage in classes for 3 hours each day.
Acknowledging the constraints posed by limited teaching hours during Ramadan, the circular mandates that each hour of instruction falls within a timeframe of 30 to 45 minutes. Additionally, it requires schools to cover all subjects during the two-week period of Ramadan.
The Ministry further outlined measures to ensure the well-being of educational staff, limiting teachers’ working hours to a maximum of 4 hours. Administrative staff schedules are also to be coordinated to minimize disruptions during study hours.
Schools have been instructed to abstain from conducting activities from 4:00 pm to 9:00 pm. Moreover, secondary grade students are advised to plan any evening school programs between 9:00 pm and 10:30 pm.
