Second Round of Presidential Elections Set for September 30

After a first-round where no candidate secured a 50% majority, Dr Mohamed Muizzu of the People’s National Congress (PNC) and incumbent President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih are set to contest in the second round of the presidential elections on September 30.

Early results indicate a promising lead for Dr. Mohamed Muizzu. He currently holds 45.1% of the votes, translating to a total of 100,691. Meanwhile, incumbent President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih trails with 38.2%, amounting to 85,260 votes.

The Democrats’ Ilyas Labeeb has secured the third position, closely followed by independent contenders Umar Naseer and Faris Maumoon in the fourth and sixth positions. Qasim Ibrahim, representing the Jumhooree Party (JP), sits in the fifth spot. The Maldives National Party’s (MNP) candidate, Mohamed Nazim, is in seventh, while another independent candidate, Hassan Zameel, ranks eighth.
