The closure, beginning today and lasting until 13 October, is part of ongoing infrastructure development efforts across the capital, particularly the upgrade of Boduthakurufaanu Magu which circles the city. The Council stated that the temporary measure is necessary to facilitate uninterrupted road improvement works in one of the most congested areas of Malé.
Motorists have been advised to follow traffic instructions and exercise caution during this period. The Council has apologised for the inconvenience caused and issued a detailed chart indicating the affected areas.
According to the chart, sections highlighted in yellow will be subject to closures only during peak traffic hours, while the lagoon area beyond the MMA building, a busy docking point for ferries and boats from nearby islands, will also be restricted.
The northern waterfront of Malé, where the closure takes place, is a major hub of activity due to the large number of boats docking daily and its proximity to the market. The area regularly experiences heavy congestion caused by the loading and unloading of passengers and goods.
