The government has introduced a separate application category for people with disabilities under its family housing scheme.

According to the Housing Ministry, a total of 7,900 flats will be allocated in the Greater Malé Area, with 100 units reserved specifically for individuals with disabilities.

The ministry has created a dedicated application category for this group and has published the application forms, eligibility criteria, point-scoring guidelines and instructions required for submission.

Under the new category, individuals with disabilities may apply even if they do not currently reside in Malé, provided they are unable to access necessary medical treatment in their home island or if their family’s financial circumstances prevent them from living in the capital.

Residents of Malé who have received medical treatment within the past year are also eligible to apply under this category.

Applications for the disability category will open on 24 March and will close on 30 April. All applications must be submitted through the Housing Portal.
