Shaviyani Atoll’s Eriyadhoo Showcased in Google Doodle for Earth Day
Google showcased the stunning natural beauty of Eriyadhoo in Shaviyani Atoll as part of its special Earth Day Google Doodle.
The doodle, which appeared on Google’s homepage, highlighted six remarkable natural locations from around the world, with each letter of the word “Google” representing a unique landscape.
An aerial view of Eriyadhoo was selected to represent the first letter “G” in the doodle. Eriyadhoo, a private leasehold from the Maldivian government, is renowned for its vibrant blue-green lagoon, which is also a notable area for sea cucumber harvesting.
The doodle served as a celebration of the Maldives, described by Google as a “low-lying tropical paradise” comprising twenty ring-shaped coral reef formations, or atolls. These atolls enclose vibrant lagoons, and the term “atoll” itself originates from the local Dhivehi language.
