Sheikh Mohamed Imthithaau Abbaas Appointed Director General of Maldives Zakat House

Sheikh Mohamed Imthithaau Abbaas has been appointed Director General of the Maldives Zakat House.

According to the Council, Sheikh Abbaas was selected following a formal interview process that assessed candidates’ qualifications and capabilities for the role. He was deemed the best fit to fulfil the responsibilities of the position.

Prior to this appointment, Abbaas served as Deputy Minister at the Ministry of Islamic Affairs. He also acted as an advisor to the Senior Political Director and headed the ministry’s international relations. In addition, he previously held the role of Vice Chairman of the Sharia Advisory Committee before the implementation of the Zakat Act, the Council said.

Abbaas holds a Master’s degree in Judicial Science and Sharia Policy from the Islamic University of the Maldives (IUM). He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Hadith Science and Islamic Studies from the Islamic University of Madinah and is currently pursuing a doctorate in Islamic Judicial Science and Sharia Policy.
