Six Arrested Over Two Separate Gang Attacks In Malé

Six individuals have been arrested in connection with two separate gang-related attacks that occurred in Malé earlier this month.

According to the Maldives Police Service, all six suspects were taken into custody under court orders on Friday.

The first incident occurred at around 8:30 pm on 4 October, when a group of individuals on motorcycles assaulted a man sitting on a parked motorcycle outside Ma. Reendhoomaage using dangerous weapons. Police did not disclose the specific weapons used in the attack.

Four suspects, aged 19, 25, 26, and 29, were detained in relation to the case. The Criminal Court has since ordered that all four remain in custody until the conclusion of their trial.

The second attack took place at approximately 6:10 pm on 7 October outside the post office on Boduthakurufaanu Magu, where two individuals on a motorcycle attacked a man. The suspects arrested in connection with the incident are aged 22 and 24. The court has remanded both in police custody for 15 days.

Police confirmed that the victims injured in both incidents have been discharged from hospital after receiving treatment. The cases remain under active investigation.
