Six New Filariasis Cases Detected in Greater Male’ Area

The Health Protection Agency (HPA) announced today the discovery of six additional cases of filariasis, a mosquito-borne infectious disease, within the Greater Male’ area.
According to the Health Protection Agency (HPA), six new cases of filariasis were identified during the screening of 89 migrants in Male’, Hulhumale’, Vilimale’, Gulhifalhu, and Thilafushi over the weekend.
Of these, five cases were reported in Hulhumale, with one case in Male’ City. HPA indicates that a total of 683 individuals have undergone screening in Kulhudhuffushi, comprising 439 migrants and 155 Maldivians, resulting in 25 positive cases.
This brings the total number of filariasis cases in the Maldives to 32, with the current cases confined to the migrant population.
HPA has clarified that the migrants who tested positive for filariasis originated from countries where the disease is endemic.
