The agreement ceremony, held earlier today, saw the signing of the contract by Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed and SJ Company Director Shihad Ibrahim.

Under the terms of the agreement, SJ Construction will fully finance the project, assuming all associated costs. Additionally, the Ministry has entered into contracts with other entities for the construction of two mosques in Hulhumale’, with Aleem Foundation and Lisa Maldives undertaking the respective projects.

Speaking at the ceremony, Minister Shaheem emphasised the importance of having a permanent mosque facility in densely populated areas such as Male’ City, expressing confidence in the timely completion of the project.

The Minister commended the initiative of private contractors funding mosque construction, citing it as a commendable act of piety. He highlighted that, with the exception of Furqan Mosque, private entities or individuals have historically financed all mosques in Male’ City.

Notably, SJ Construction had previously been engaged to construct a ten-storey building at the Zikura Mosque site, including provisions for a mosque and office complex. However, the contract was terminated during the previous administration, leading to legal disputes between the company and the government.

Following negotiations, an out-of-court settlement was reached, leading to the construction of a temporary mosque at the Zikura Mosque location by SJ Construction.
