President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has reaffirmed his commitment to changing the country’s government on November 11, provided there are no legal obstacles in the way.
Speaking during a press conference today, Solih emphasised the historical significance of November 11 as a date when governments have historically transitioned.
“If there are no legal impediments, the government will change on November 11,” stated Solih. He expressed his strong desire for this specific date to mark the transition of government and assured the public of his efforts to make it a reality.
The Maldivian Constitution stipulates that a President’s term in office is five years. Solih assumed office in 2018 and was officially inaugurated on November 17 of that year. He has consistently expressed his intention to align his term’s expiration and the government’s change with November 11.
The transition date of November 11 remains contingent on the absence of any legal impediments, and Solih continues to work towards this objective while maintaining a commitment to the democratic process.
