In response to speculations regarding his departure from Maldives, President Solih unequivocally stated, “There is no reason for me to leave Maldives.” He emphasised his intent to continue residing in the country even after stepping down from his presidential duties.

Meanwhile, Yameen, who is currently serving an 11-year prison sentence on charges of bribery and money laundering, has been transferred to his residence. The Maldives Correctional Services (MCS) has initiated the process to move Yameen from his current confinement at Maafushi jail to his home in Male’.

This decision to transfer Yameen follows a plea made by President-elect Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, who emerged victorious in Saturday’s presidential election.
