President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has unveiled an initiative to provide 300 flats to employees who have served for more than 15 years in the resort industry.

Housing Ministry State Minister Akram Kamaluddin expressed the government’s dedication to improving the well-being of resort workers, stating that President Solih’s promise encompasses providing housing for all, including those employed in resorts.

One of the aspects of this initiative is the establishment of a minimum wage for resort workers, a demand that has long been on the table. Akram highlighted the impact of the Binveriyaa scheme, which is expected to benefit a significant portion of the population.

Notably, individuals who have previously received one-bedroom flats through government schemes, those who have benefited from schemes operated by government-owned companies, and individuals currently residing in shelter flats are all eligible to apply for these newly built government flats.

In the second phase of this housing project, over 8,000 flats and more than 5,000 plots are now open for application. Several beneficiaries from the initial phase of the project have already received property registries, and the official list of flat recipients is soon to be released.

Furthermore, this scheme extends to individuals from other islands who have resided in the city for a minimum of 20 years.
