President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has announced the pardoning of outstanding parking fines in the lead-up to elections.
This decision by President Solih follows a similar promise made by his primary rival candidate, Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, People’s National Congress’ (PNC) presidential candidate, who pledged to pardon existing fines if elected.
The current wave of fine waivers is specifically targeted at fines imposed on licensed drivers who were caught driving without their license in possession, driving with an expired, lost, or damaged license, and driving a class of vehicle not covered by their license.
The primary objective of this relief initiative is to reduce the recurrence of such traffic violations and enhance public awareness of traffic regulations and broader social issues, as stated in the official statement.
