Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) Chairman and Economic Minister Fayyaz Ismail confidently predicted President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s victory with a substantial majority, exceeding 56 percent in the upcoming presidential election, at the Ufaaveri Male’ Bodu Jalsaa, last night.
Drawing upon the data gleaned from his campaign activities, Fayyaz left no room for doubt as he proclaimed, “I am the keeper of the campaign’s data, and I can assure you that we will not fall below the 56 percent mark by a single vote.”
Fayyaz continued to emphasise his role within the party, reiterating, “I was elected to lead this party,” as he rallied attendees at the carnival.
Highlighting the momentum in President Solih’s favor, Fayyaz noted, “Every day, as the President has aptly stated, is a day that sees our support grow, surpassing the 56 percent threshold. There is no doubt about it. On September 9, we will secure this election with a substantial margin.”
Furthermore, the minister underscored the necessity of selflessness in rectifying injustice, stating, “If one does not seek power or participate in governance for the sole purpose of obtaining power, there is no obligation to pass it on to others.”
In a strategic move, Fayyaz urged supporters of The Democrats candidate, Ilyas Labeeb, to consolidate their votes, saying, “I would like to encourage The Democrats not to squander their votes but rather join us in pushing the percentage beyond 60 percent.”
Reflecting on the past five years, Fayyaz noted a period marked by peace and a distinct absence of injury or intimidation. He contrasted this with previous governments, where judges had been subjected to arrests, suggesting a more stable and secure situation under the current administration.
