Speaker of the Parliament, Ahmed Aslam, has indicated the possibility of convening an extraordinary sitting to deliberate on the approval of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s government cabinet.
The third session of Parliament has faced three adjournments thus far, with the approval of ministers notably absent from today’s agenda.
At the commencement of today’s sitting, Speaker Aslam acknowledged that the process of approving ministers remains outstanding. He clarified that the Committee would finalise its report on the matter if an extraordinary sitting is deemed necessary.
The approval for the 22 government ministers was submitted to parliament on 20 November. However, the committee’s report, originally slated for last week’s Monday session, was returned by Speaker Mohamed Aslam. The reason cited was the incomplete mandates of the ministries.
Since then, the committee has not convened a meeting to facilitate the approval of ministers, contributing to the ongoing delay in the parliamentary process. The issue remains unresolved, prompting discussions about the potential need for an extraordinary sitting to address the pending cabinet approvals.
