Minister of State for Homeland Security and Technology, Dr Mohamed Kinaanath, has stressed the importance of ensuring that digital policies are not shaped solely by a limited group, but instead reflect the interests and needs of the wider population.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the Internet Governance Forum 2025 (IGF), Dr Kinaanath highlighted the value of collaboration across generations, industries, and expertise to ensure that decision-making within the digital sphere remains inclusive.
“If we work together, we can undoubtedly build a sustainable and fair digital future,” he said.
Dr Kinaanath pointed to President Mohamed Muizzu’s “Maldives 2.0” initiative, which aims to digitalise the Maldivian economy, describing it as a plan not only to improve infrastructure but also to strengthen governance, build skills, and expand digital literacy.
He noted that the initiative is intended to create a digitally connected society where individuals have equal access to opportunities, while their rights remain protected.

Referencing the “AI Readiness Assessment Report” published earlier this year, Dr Kinaanath said the study was conducted to assess the country’s preparedness to adopt artificial intelligence in a way that protects privacy, dignity, and fairness. He emphasised that unity and shared responsibility are essential to sustaining a safe and inclusive digital environment.
Describing the IGF as a model of multi-stakeholder cooperation, Dr Kinaanath said that bringing together experts from various fields to discuss internet governance would play a crucial role in advancing the country’s digital future.
