President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has pledged to fulfill his presidential promise of sending 1,000 people on the Hajj pilgrimage within the five years of his tenure.
Minister Shaheem confirmed that the inaugural group of state-supported Hajj pilgrims will embark on their journey in the coming year.
The specific number of individuals to be sponsored will be disclosed once the official quota is established, with corresponding regulations being formulated to facilitate the process, the Minister noted.
During a campaign rally in the preceding presidential election, Muizzu articulated his commitment to providing free Hajj opportunities for 1,000 individuals throughout his five-year term.
Furthermore, he underscored that priority would be accorded to economically disadvantaged individuals who are unable to bear the expenses of the pilgrimage on their own.
