Statistics Bureau to Launch First Round of Household Income and Expenditure Survey 2026 Today

The Maldives Bureau of Statistics has announced the launch of the first round of the Household Income and Expenditure Survey (HIES) 2026, beginning in the Greater Malé region today.
In a post on X, the Statistic Bureau said that their survey teams will visit selected households as part of the nationwide data collection exercise, which aims to gather key information on household income, spending patterns and living conditions.
The bureau has requested the full cooperation and support of households selected for the survey, noting that the data collected is vital for national planning and policy formulation.
We will be launching 1st round of Household Income and Expenditure Survey 2026 at greater Male’ region from 27th onwards. Our teams will be visiting selected households, and we kindly seek your full cooperation and support during this important exercise.

The Statistic Bureau also assured the public that all enumerators conducting fieldwork will carry and display official Maldives Bureau of Statistics identification cards.
The bureau expressed appreciation to households for their continued support, describing the survey as an important national exercise.
The most recently completed nationwide Household Income and Expenditure Survey that is fully published and available on official statistical platforms is the 2019 HIES. That survey was conducted following the 2016 round and is listed in international and national statistical catalogues, including those of the International Labour Organization (ILO) and Maldives statistical databases.
