STELCO has set up a temporary power station in Hulhumalé to ensure a stable electricity supply for the expanding population in the Greater Malé region. The project involves the installation of 13 generators, adding a total of 17 megawatts of electricity to the grid.
With the country currently experiencing its hottest season, electricity consumption has been steadily increasing. Peak-hour electricity demand in Malé currently stands at 98 megawatts, with STELCO anticipating this figure to rise to 120 megawatts in the coming weeks.
However, STELCO has assured that the newly established 17-megawatt temporary power station will be sufficient to handle the additional load.
