STELCO Completes Renovation of Islamic Centre Fish Pond

MV+ News Desk | November 23, 2024

State Electric Company Limited (STELCO) has completed the renovation of the fish pond beneath the minaret at the Islamic Centre and officially handed it over to the Ministry of Islamic Affairs.

The fish pond, originally constructed alongside the mosque 40 years ago, had fallen into disuse over the years due to wear and tear. Ahead of the Islamic Centre’s 40th anniversary, the Ministry of Islamic Affairs sought a partner to restore the feature. STELCO undertook the renovation as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives.

The completed project was handed over during a special ceremony held last Thursday. STELCO’s Managing Director, Hussain Fahmy, and Islamic Minister, Dr Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed, attended the event, along with officials from both organisations and STELCO staff who contributed to the restoration work.

The renovation highlights STELCO’s commitment to community engagement and preserving historical and cultural landmarks in the Maldives.
