State Electric Company (STELCO) revealed that they are considering real-time billing, adding that the company already has the capacity to implement it.
Hussain Fahmy, Managing Director of STELCO emphasised that the company already possesses the necessary infrastructure to implement this system.
During the briefing, Fahmy highlighted the current billing process’s inefficiencies, noting a significant gap of 25-30 days between meter reading and bill delivery.
“We are considering moving towards real-time billing, meaning a mechanism where the bill is delivered the moment the reading is taken,” Fahmy explained.
This delay, Fahmy mentioned, has been a persistent issue for the past 15 years. “Initially, it was a delay of one or two days; now it has extended to a month,” he said.
Fahmy assured that STELCO would consult with customers before making any modifications to the billing method. He noted that it is already feasible for employees to issue the bill immediately after taking the reading. Additionally, STELCO aims to offer real-time billing to interested customers.
Fahmy reiterated the company’s commitment to implementing real-time billing, underscoring its potential benefits for both the company and its customers.
In the same press briefing, Fahmy announced plans to conduct an energy audit to determine the causes of high electricity bills.
