The initiative was first announced by President Mohamed Muizzu at the COP28 climate summit in Dubai in 2023, where it was presented as a key effort to improve environmental conditions across the Maldives’ island communities.
Since its official launch on Environment Day 2024, the programme has seen participation from a range of state-owned enterprises as well as private organisations, contributing to nationwide tree-planting efforts aimed at supporting sustainability and climate resilience.
