The ceremony took place alongside the launch of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s ambitious plan to plant five million trees during his five-year term. This initiative forms part of the President’s broader agenda to promote a greener Maldives and bolster the nation’s resilience to climate change.
The government has revealed its intention to introduce over 90 different plant species across the Maldives within the next five years as part of this initiative. The health and carbon sequestration capacity of these trees will be closely monitored to ensure their positive environmental impact.
STELCO’s involvement in this venture highlights the company’s commitment to environmental stewardship and corporate social responsibility. The tree planting initiative is expected to significantly expand the country’s green coverage, contributing to carbon absorption and biodiversity enhancement.
