National power supplier State Electric Company Ltd (STELCO) has re-opened Dhonadhaaradha Hingun, a road beside the company’s compound which had been closed off to the public in order to build another engine house.
Last year, STELCO Managing Director Hussain Fahmy announced that the road would be re-opened prior to Ramadan in an effort to ease traffic congestion, while speaking at the launch ceremony on December 17 to mark the commencement of work on clearing the road.
The re-opening ceremony was inaugurated by Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation Mohamed Ameen, who commended Fahmy’s efforts to address urban infrastructure needs in his remarks.
Fahmy highlighted the importance of the road clearance in mitigating strain on the city’s traffic and reducing congestion, citing directives from the President as a driving force behind the initiative.
The road had been blocked off to build an engine house due to delays in the Fourth Power Project aimed at increasing the city’s power capacity.
