STELCO Signs MoU with TBEA Group

This morning, Hussain Fahmy, Managing Director of State Electric Company (STELCO) announced via X that the company has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with TBEA Group, a Chinese firm. This agreement is a significant step forward for the Maldives’ energy infrastructure.

The partnership includes several key components to enhance energy capacity across the country. Notably, it will involve the construction of a high-capacity transmission line linking Malé, Villigili, Gulhifalhu, and Thilafushi, creating a network to meet the energy demands of these critical areas.

Additionally, the agreement outlines plans for a 150MW dual-fuel power plant, which aims to substantially increase STELCO’s power generation capabilities and ensure a stable and reliable energy supply for the nation.

Fahmy emphasised the commitment to sustainability, noting that this collaboration aligns with STELCO’s vision for sustainable growth and addresses the rising energy demands through innovative solutions.

The announcement also thanked President Dr Muizzu for his leadership and support in facilitating this partnership, underscoring STELCO’s dedication to contributing to a reliable and sustainable future for all Maldivians.
