STO Begins Sale of Imported Coconuts at MVR 5 Ahead of Ramadan

State Trading Organisation (STO) has begun selling imported coconuts at a fixed price of MVR 5 as part of its preparations for Ramadan.
The first batch of coconuts has now arrived from India, and sales began today at STO People’s Choice outlets. Currently, the market price of coconuts ranges between MVR 10 and MVR 25. According to STO, they aim to provide a more affordable option for consumers with this shipment. Additionally, limes are also available at STO People’s Choice stores from today.
In preparation for Ramadan, STO stated that it is closely monitoring market price fluctuations, identifying price increases, and implementing immediate solutions. They wrote in their statement that special attention has been given to providing green opportunities for the general public and businesses.
As part of its efforts, STO is also importing a range of essential food items under four categories:
- Basic staples: onions, eggs, potatoes, coconuts, and dates.
- Fresh vegetables and fruits: garlic, ginger, limes, carrots, oranges, cabbage, peppers, guavas, watermelons, mangoes, passion fruits, and cucumbers.
- Processed foods: Nestlé cream, cocoa powder, baked beans, and condensed milk.
- Cooking ingredients: sunflower oil, vegetable oil, and basmati rice.
