As part of the Maldives Health Line initiative, specialist doctors across various fields will visit the atolls through outreach programmes. This effort ensures that locals can access medical treatments without leaving their home islands. Consequently, 20 atolls are set to receive multipurpose 40ft speedboats to facilitate these services.
During the launch, Health Minister Ahmed Naseem expressed that the Maldives Health Line will significantly enhance the government’s ability to extend healthcare services between islands. He emphasised the commitment to delivering specialist care, laboratory services, and patient transport within the atolls. Furthermore, he confirmed that all speedboats would reach the atolls by November and revealed plans to link the islands through air transport.
The utilisation of drones will be instrumental in facilitating the transportation of vital resources, including blood samples, emergency medical supplies, and consumables, to remote islands.
