The spokesperson for the president-elect’s office, Mohamed Firuzul has issued a warning regarding the state of healthcare supplies.
According to the spokesperson, the failure to place new orders for essential medical equipment and pharmaceuticals could lead to a severe shortage, potentially resulting in a suspension of hospital services by the end of November.
Firuzul highlighted the customary practice of hospitals to pre-order the necessary stock they require. However, he expressed serious concerns as no new orders have been placed in recent days, forcing healthcare facilities to rely on emergency reserves.
Firuzul explained, “Single-use items, which are ordered and maintained in accordance with specific regulations, have traditionally been ordered on a bi-annual basis.” Alarming as it may be, the spokesperson revealed that health officials have failed to place orders for the final six months of the year, causing disruptions in healthcare services at hospitals and health centers.
Additionally, the spokesperson attributed this crisis to the lack of funds allocated in the budget. This financial shortfall has placed immense pressure on the healthcare system, threatening its ability to meet the needs of the public.
