Supporters Assemble Near Yameen’s Residence in Male’ Following Transfer

Former President Yameen’s supporters congregated near his residence as he was relocated from his cell in Maafushi Prison to his home in Male’ City today, around 03:30 pm.

The Maldives Correctional Service said that Yameen’s transfer to home confinement was of a “temporary” nature.
Supporters of Yameen had already begun gathering outside his home, which is also in close proximity to his party’s “Dhiveheenge Raajje” center near the Alimas Carnival in Male’, immediately upon learning of his impending transfer. Among those present was his wife, Fathimath Ibrahim.
This decision follows a request made by President-elect Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, who secured victory in Saturday’s presidential election.
In his address to the nation following his electoral triumph, President-elect Muizzu appealed to President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, seeking the relocation of Yameen to his residence.
