Surge in Drug-Related Deaths Sparks Concern in the Maldives

Local NGO HandsTogether, has raised their concerns today about the rising number of drug related deaths in the Maldives.

They asserted that the number of unknown deaths related to drug cases has been on the rise, with eight individuals losing their lives in the past two months alone.
HandsTogether has expressed that if this trend is not promptly addressed, we should worry about the future of this country.
HandsTogether has also highlighted that while institutions in the Maldives acknowledge the pressing need to detect such drugs within the country and implement harm reduction initiatives, failing to take action against these issues is a detrimental course of action for the nation’s future.
Moreover, they stated the significance of highlighting that this issue does not exclusively effect specific demographics based on factors such as race, beliefs, familial ties, or geographical origin. Instead, it represents a troubling consequence of past governments endeavors aimed at addressing drug-related issues.
