Suspect Arrested Over Stabbing Incident In Addu

A suspect has been arrested in connection with a stabbing that occurred last week in Addu, the southernmost city of the Maldives.

The incident took place at 1:17 am on Wednesday, 24 September, in the Hithadhoo district, when a 34-year-old man was attacked with a sharp-edged weapon. The victim sustained two stab wounds and was admitted to Addu Equatorial Hospital (AEH).
Police confirmed on Tuesday that a suspect is in custody. Ali As’ar, 30, of Sunreef, S. Hithadhoo, was arrested on Sunday under a court warrant. He was remanded in police custody for 30 days following a court appearance on Monday.
Authorities reported that the victim remains hospitalised at AEH but is showing signs of recovery. The case is being investigated under new laws addressing gang-related violence and other serious crimes.
