Police said Afrah was found unresponsive in Cell 7 at Atholhu Vehi at around 5:50 am on Sunday. He was taken to Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital, where doctors confirmed he had already passed away on arrival.

While police did not provide details of the case linked to him, the court order shows that Afrah was arrested in relation to a drug abuse case. He was taken into custody on suspicion of being under the influence of drugs, and his urine tested positive for a substance not specified in the order.

The Criminal Court cited his history of previous arrests in drug cases and the need for urgent treatment for his addiction when granting the remand.
