Police stated that officers stopped Afeef after observing suspicious behaviour. During the encounter, he reportedly attempted to discard an item, prompting officers to search the surrounding area. This led to the discovery of five rubber packets containing substances believed to be narcotics.

Following his arrest, Afeef was presented before the court and has been remanded in custody for 10 days. The case remains under investigation.

Drug-related crime continues to be a major social concern in the Maldives. Just last week, Maldives Customs seized 18 kilogrammes of drugs being smuggled into the country. According to Home Minister Ali Ihusan, the street value of the seized drugs is estimated at around MVR 26 million.
