Swim Maldives met with the Malé City Council to explore ways to promote open water swimming in Maldives.

Speaking at the meeting held at the council office on Tuesday, Swim Maldives President Hussain Shameem emphasised the association’s goal of ensuring that every Maldivian girl can swim. Highlighting the risks associated with limited access to safe swimming areas, he noted that 12 children have drowned in the sea over the past five years, making it a pressing concern for the Malé area.

He added that the council also has plans to carry out similar initiatives in the future and is actively working on various activities to promote swimming among residents of all ages in Malé City.

The Mayor further stressed that ensuring the safety and well-being of every citizen in Malé City is a fundamental responsibility. He also announced that the council, in collaboration with Swim Maldives, will organise open water swimming activities as part of efforts to enhance water safety and swimming accessibility.
