Furthermore, digital license cards will be issued to teachers via this platform.
The primary objective behind introducing the teaching license is to ensure that educators possess the requisite educational qualifications, technical proficiencies, and pedagogical skills necessary for teaching.
Apart from the “Teaching License,” “One Gov” will also facilitate the application process for the “School Leadership License” and the “School Professional License.” These licenses serve various roles within the education sector, catering to a wide range of educational professionals.
Licenses Issued by the Ministry:
1. Teaching License: This license is intended for teachers, tutors, leading teachers, supervisors, heads of departments, head teachers, and other professionals engaged in schools and educational institutions.
2. School Leadership License: Designed for individuals in leadership positions within schools and preschools.
3. School Professional License: Issued to professionals working with students in schools and non-school educational settings, without the oversight of a teaching or school leadership license holder. This category includes therapists, counselors, school health officers, sports supervisors, vocational instructors, and librarians.
Speaking during the portal’s launch, Minister of Education Dr. Aishath Ali emphasised that the registration and licensing of teachers would encourage continuous learning and skills development among educators. This, in turn, would enable teachers to prepare students effectively for the ever-changing global landscape.
The Education Minister further highlighted that the overall enhancement of the education sector’s quality would yield positive benefits for society at large.
The Ministry of Education has already commenced the process of issuing licenses to existing teachers since August. Administrative work for these licenses is scheduled to be completed by January of the coming year.
Beginning on January 7th, teachers will be required to hold registered and licensed status to work in schools and other educational institutions across Maldives.
Looking ahead to 2029, teachers will be mandated to possess a four-year degree when applying for a license. However, students currently pursuing their degrees will be eligible for licensure under the new regulations.
