Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef announced that the commencement of the construction of a dedicated hospital for thalassemia patients is imminent, following the cabinet’s approval of the project in December.

During his address at the conference, Hussain outlined various initiatives launched by the government within the first 14 weeks of its tenure, aimed at advancing this objective. Among these initiatives is the allocation of a 71,000 square feet plot in Hulhumale’ Phase II for the construction of a specialised thalassemia hospital.

Furthermore, Hussain highlighted President Muizzu’s fulfillment of his electoral promise to provide government sponsorship for bone marrow transplants for eligible thalassemia patients. Additionally, the government has expanded access to essential medicines and consumables for thalassemia patients nationwide.

The National Thalassemia Conference 2024, now in its third edition, serves as a platform for stakeholders to collaborate on improving services for thalassemia patients and addressing the challenges faced by the thalassemia community.
