The party’s decision stems from their attempt to secure agreements from both the PNC presidential candidate, Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, and the MDP candidate, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.
A deadline was set by The Democrats, requiring the two candidates to endorse the party’s proposals and sign the agreement by yesterday. However, as neither candidate agreed to the terms within the specified timeframe, the Democrats chose not to align themselves with either party during this election cycle.
This decision was reached during the party’s council meeting held on the night of the 18th of this month, where it was determined that the absence of agreement with either candidate left the Democrats with no preferred candidate to endorse.
The Democrats also made it known that they have discontinued talks with the PPM, citing their reluctance to enter into an agreement as the reason for this decision.
