The Democrats have officially scheduled their parliamentary primary for February 17th, as announced following the inaugural meeting of the party’s national assembly.
To be eligible for participation in the primary, individuals must be listed in the party’s register as of February 4th and meet all the stipulated requirements for parliamentary candidates in accordance with the law.
Prospective candidates in the primary are required to submit their criminal and debt clearance forms from the Department of Judicial Administration (DJA) and obtain criminal record clearance from the Maldives Correctional Service as part of their application process.
Voting in the primary will be restricted to party members included in the register as of February 4th.
Meanwhile, both the opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) and the government Progressive Party of Maldives and People’s National Congress (PPM-PNC) coalition are actively preparing for their own primaries.
The PPM-PNC coalition has set January 20th as the date for their primary, while the MDP’s primary is scheduled for January 26th.
