The Democrats to Contest for 41 Seats in Upcoming Parliamentary Elections

The Democrats have revealed their intentions to contest 41 seats in the forthcoming parliamentary elections, with primary elections scheduled to determine their candidates for four electoral districts.

Announced yesterday, the Democrats disclosed that 46 candidates have submitted applications to represent the party in the parliamentary elections, comprising 33 male candidates and 13 female candidates.

Notably, numerous incumbent Democratic MPs have already secured their nominations for the upcoming elections. These include Central Henveiru MP Ali Azim, North Galolhu MP Eva Abdulla, North Maafannu MP Imthiyaz Fahmy, Central Maafannu MP Ibrahim Rasheed (Bondey), and West Henveiru MP Hassan Latheef.

The candidates vying in the primaries are as follows:

  • Kelaa district: Mariyam Haneefa Khalid and Fathuhullah Ismail
  • Kanditheemu district: Ahmed Raisam and Ali Nifaz Mohamed
  • South Hulhumale’ district: Hassan Ageel, Hussain Firushan, and Mohamed Faisal
  • South Henveiru district: Ahmed Aswan Numan and Mohamed Saif Fathih (Aekko)

The Democrats are set to conduct their primaries on Saturday.
