Theft Dominates Crime Stats Last Month, Maldives Police Service Stats Show

According to the statistics published by the Maldives Police Service (MPS), theft cases reported stood at 267 for October, marking the highest number of cases among crime categories. 

It is worth noting that theft cases dominate police crime statistics every month, with the highest number of theft cases reported in May this year, with 337 cases.

Traffic accidents reported to MPS stood at a close second, with 258 cases last month. Drug-related offences followed with 132 reported incidents, while lost property cases accounted for 73 reports.

In response to the persistence of traffic accidents, the police have implemented new measures to enhance road safety. These include increasing the visibility of officers at key locations and collaborating with local councils to launch public safety outreach programmes to raise awareness of crime prevention.

Commissioner of Police Ali Shujau emphasised the importance of sustained police presence to enhance community security. He expressed optimism that these initiatives will positively impact public safety, creating a safer environment for residents across the Maldives.
