Three additional spas in Malé employing undocumented migrant workers have been shut down during raids, authorities confirmed.
Maldives Immigration stated that the establishments were closed during an operation conducted by its taskforce targeting undocumented migrant labour. The raid last night covered 10 such businesses across the capital.
Undocumented migrant workers participating in illegal business activities have remained a persistent issue in the Maldives. In a similar operation last Tuesday, Immigration closed four massage parlours and detained three undocumented migrant workers.
Massage parlours have frequently been used as fronts for prostitution, prompting repeated closures in past enforcement actions.
Immigration has carried out numerous raids as part of ongoing efforts to identify and detain migrants involved in illegal businesses, resulting in the detention of dozens of migrants, including those without proper documentation.
