Three Participants Win Top Honours At National Quran Competition

Three individuals have secured first place in this year’s National Quran Competition, receiving more than MVR 100,000 in cash prizes and fully funded scholarships to pursue studies up to PhD level in any field and at any university worldwide.

The winners of the 37th National Quran Competition were honoured at a ceremony held on Sunday morning and attended by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu.

The top positions were awarded to Fathimath Shaya Zahir in the Huffaz category, Ahmed Shaim Riza in the By-Book category, and Aishath Shaba in the Memorisation category. Each winner received a presidential scholarship enabling them to study up to PhD level, an MVR 100,000 cash prize, a presidential plaque of honour, an additional MVR 75,000 cash prize and plaque from the Islamic Ministry, and an Umrah trip sponsored by the Maldives Hajj Corporation.

Arabiyya School was recognised as the top institute in this year’s competition and was awarded an MVR 100,000 cash prize by the President.

A total of 1,037 participants from 119 institutions took part in the competition, which was held from 18 to 26 September.

The presidential scholarship and MVR 100,000 cash prizes were newly introduced this year by President Muizzu, following through on his pledge to make the National Quran Competition the most prestigious and valuable contest held in the Maldives.
