Tourism Ministry Reports 9.9% Increase in Annual Tourist Arrivals to Maldives
The Ministry of Tourism has announced a 9.9% annual increase in tourist arrivals to the Maldives, with 1,159,808 tourists visiting from 1 January to 27 July.
This is an increase from 1,055,031 in the same period last year. Currently, the Maldives sees an average of 5,549 tourist arrivals per day. The average duration of stay is 7.7 days. In July alone, from the 1st to the 27th, there was a notable 15% increase in tourist arrivals. This year, 144,279 tourists arrived during this period, up from 125,424 in 2023.
The highest single-day arrival was recorded on a Saturday, with 6,215 tourists. The lowest was on 9 July, with 4,169 arrivals.
China remains the top source market for tourists, followed by Russia. The UK and Italy are in third and fourth places, respectively.
China is the top market with 153,180 tourists. Russia follows with 123,153 tourists. The UK is third with 103,051 tourists. Italy is fourth with 85,661 tourists. Germany follows closely with 85,393 tourists. India has 70,753 tourists. The USA records 41,286 tourists. France has 35,550 tourists. Switzerland is next with 24,340 tourists. Spain completes the top ten with 21,545 tourists.
The Maldives’ tourism industry currently operates 1,207 properties. These include tourist resorts, guesthouses, hotels, and safari vessels. Tourist resorts offer the highest bed capacity, with 42,955 beds across 174 properties. The 14 registered hotels provide a combined bed capacity of 1,956. There are 867 registered guesthouses contributing 14,615 beds. Additionally, 152 registered safari vessels offer a bed capacity of 2,955.
