Trans Maldivian Airways (TMA) has announced the arrival of its 66th aircraft in the Maldives.
Commenting on the development, Head of Corporate Strategy and Business Development Shubham Moondhara said the addition followed a record year for Trans Maldivian Airways, which saw the airline record its highest-ever passenger volumes, reflecting strong demand for travel to the Maldives and continued confidence from its partners.
“This expansion allows us to operate with greater agility while upholding the gold standard of service excellence that defines TMA. As we move through 2026, our focus remains on scaling responsibly and ensuring every journey across the atolls is as memorable as the destination itself,” Moondhara said regarding the addition to the largest seaplane operator in the world.
TMA said the latest addition strengthens its operational capacity at a time of continued growth in tourism and new resort development across the archipelago. The airline plays a central role in the country’s tourism infrastructure, providing resort transfer services across the atolls.
Since introducing seaplane operations in the Maldives in 1993, TMA has expanded its network to connect more than 80 resorts across 16 atolls. It currently operates an industry-leading fleet of DHC-6 Twin Otter aircraft, including 13 resort-branded aircraft and two VIP-configured aircraft. The airline conducts more than 400 flights daily and records millions of flight cycles each year, maintaining one of the highest utilisation rates for Twin Otter aircraft globally.
TMA also highlighted 2025 as a year of recognition, with the airline named “Leading Tourist Transfer Provider (Air)” at the SATA Awards 2025 and “World’s Leading Seaplane Operator” at the World Travel Awards for the 10th time.
