In anticipation of the second round of the presidential election scheduled for September 30th, Saturday, the Transport Ministry has instituted a ban on vehicles carrying goods vehicles within Male’ City on the same day.
The decision comes as authorities aim to address potential security and administrative challenges posed by expected heavy traffic.
The polling hours for this election day have been set from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and as part of the security measures, the Transport Ministry has announced the restriction on heavy load vehicles during specific hours. These vehicles will be prohibited from operating on the city streets from 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Saturday.
The follows concerns raised during the first round of the presidential election held earlier this month, where Male’ City experienced traffic congestion.
A source of this congestion was identified as the presence of lorries, pickups, and other large vehicles transporting goods, leading to numerous public complaints. In response, the authorities have taken this step to ensure smoother and safer voting procedures during the upcoming election.
